Earea Dam Historic Gold Mine
Earea Dam
Earea Dam is a fully granted Mining Lease and is located adjacent to the Tarcoola-Glendambo road and the Perth-Adelaide train line about 30 kilometres west of Kingoonya. It was a high-grade historic mine (c1899-1940’s) producing approximately 2,000 ounces at an average grade of approximately 35 grams per tonne gold from 1,870 tonnes of ore.
Gold was discovered in outcrop along a NE-SW oriented outcropping shear within Archean-age Kenalla gneiss which is locally intruded by Kimban-age (Proterozoic) mafic dykes and rhyolite/rhyodacite dykes associated with the Gawler Range Volcanics.
Modern exploration including drilling has been completed by both Tarcoola Gold (1988-89) and Minotaur (2006), together with prospecting/small scale mining activities by various lease holders over the past 20+ years.
